History  

Beginning in grade 3, Carden Academy’s extensive history curriculum launches with ancient civilizations, explorers, California history, Native Americans, American Revolution, Medieval, Renaissance, and concludes in 8th grade with U.S. History and Government. Techniques that are taught throughout the years are analysis, dictation, map work, reference work, outlining and research/presentation of oral reports. Emphasis is based on gaining a better understanding of people and cultures around the world.
The 6th – 8th grade in-depth history program is designed to prepare students for honors and advanced placement classes in high school. History field trips include Sacramento, Arizona and Washington D.C.

GRADE 3: Introduction to Ancient Civilizations: Egypt, Mesopotamia, China, and Greece

GRADE 4: Early North American Explorers, California History, Native Americans

GRADE 5: American History from American Revolution to Lincoln

GRADE 6: Ancient Civilizations: Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Roman Empire

GRADE 7: Byzantine Empire, China, Japan, Maya, Aztec, Inca, Medieval, Renaissance, and Reformation

Geography, both world and regional, is introduced as a formal subject in grade 3. Map work includes map reading, labeling, and tracing. In the middle grades emphasis is placed on the printing and coloring skills as well as the content. Grade 4 studies the thirteen major rivers of the world and is introduced to the countries through which they flow. Grades 6 - 8 study all continents and countries with emphasis on map drawing skills, written reports and presentation boards.
